There are many bread carts (similar to food trucks) that offer food services. Each part of Basel has bread and cheese carts that offer locally made goods! This bread was from Reihen dorf, Basel! Faschtewaje is a white bread dough based treat made during carnival season! It is topped with toasted caraway seeds! Yummy! Hey everyone. I have been a little absent lately due to the fact that I have been so busy with lots of great activities to fill my time with little time at home! My host family has been beyond incredible and I can't thank them enough for their generous hospitality! Tonight is my last night in Schafisheim and tomorrow morning I arrive in Basel! Guten morgen everyone. Current time here in beautiful Schafisheim is 08:56 and current time back home is 02:56. I am 6 hours ahead of my family back home in Connecticut. Yesterday was my first day in Switzerland and it was fantastic! Right away from the plane I met my friend from my host famil Marcel Giger and went for a short lunch as he had to return to his job in Zurich. He dropped me off in the old part of town where there are many shops to visit (was good to spend time in stores because it was snowing yesterday). While in Zurich I explored several of the high end grocery stores. I also went to a local café to relax until I went to Schafisheim. I enjoyed a couple of espressos which was needed as I spent about half a day traveling 4,000 miles from home. Last night I got to see a lot of old friends as my host family is in the Guten morgen everyone. Current time here in beautiful Schafisheim is 08:56 and current time back home is 02:56. They had a bit of a "practice" and welcome party for me and was a fantastic time to see old friends and make new friends! Today is my first full day in Switzerland and I have a lot of great stuff planned, not just today, but this whole week! Today will be grocery shopping for food at home (my host family decided to wait a day to go shopping so we can get foods that I would like, though I'm not very picky)! We will visit the area of Arau which is near Schafisheim. From there we will be headed home for a little while. At some point we will be picking up a special bier (beer) made especially for a local Fasnacht (I will describe about it as I learn further, but there are carnivals through out Switzerland over the next month!) and my host Angela is on the committee that created the bier, as when someone from this village turns 50 the year of the Fasnacht, they are responsible for planning the events. Tonight I will be going to a local Fasnacht with my friends for a good time! |
